Why we lobby
Affecting change on a statewide level is no small task. That’s why we lobby for increased funding and support for the arts. Through our efforts, we’ve been able to establish strong partnerships with California’s top officials, secure over $101 million for the arts in 2022 alone, and help pass 3 historic investments in arts education in 2022. And we’re just getting started.
We believe access to the arts is a human right. We seek to support policies that position the arts to address the inequities that have led to a chronic state of injustice and oppression. We work to ensure resources are directed to offset years of economic, social, and cultural disparity in our state and in our country by addressing systemic racism in the arts.
We support creating fair creative employment opportunities within the economy and recognize that artists are an essential workforce. We support keeping and incentivizing creative industries in California. We support public art, creator’s rights, cultural districts, business loans, and technical assistance for artists and creatives. We support resources for the economic growth, sustainability, and equity of the arts and cultural field.
Keep up with arts legislation and cultural policies happening in California. We track and summarize Assembly Bills and Senate Bills that have implications in the arts and cultural field.
Resources for taking action
When it comes to lobbying, we turn to Shaw, Yoder, Antwih, Schmelzer, & Lange. They ensure the right parties get the right messages when it matters to influence legislation and funding for the arts.

Our sister organization, California for the Arts, provides programs and services to make advocating for the arts easier than ever. As a 501c3, they help promote awareness of the arts, while California Arts Advocates – a 501c4 – ensures the arts are represented on a legislative level.
